Deodar Silhouettes at Sunset

The unmistakable silhouette of Himalayan deodar cedars against a deep amber sunset sky above Dalhousie. Deodar — from Sanskrit deva (divine) + daru (wood) — were considered sacred in ancient Indian tradition and are the defining tree species of the western Himalayan highlands. These same trees were ancient when Lord Dalhousie founded the hill station in 1854.
